The Vava’u Blue Water Festival Returns in September 2026

We are happy to announce The Vava’u Sailing Festival is making its return in September 2026! After taking a break in 2025, this legendary annual sailing event will once again bring together cruising yachts in the spectacular waters of Vava’u, Kingdom of Tonga.

What Makes This Festival Special?

Based in the charming town of Neiafu, the week-long festival has become a highlight on the South Pacific sailing calendar. Set against the backdrop of Vava’u’s crystal-clear anchorages and protected cruising waters, the event offers something for everyone – from competitive sailors to families looking for island adventure. The festival typically features:

  • The legendary pre event Boatyard BBQ!
  • The Vava’u Challenge Cup. A fun out and back race with big prizes on offer.
  • A vibrant cultural event hosted by The Ministry of Tourism showcasing traditional Tongan food & craft.
  • Presentations hosted by our partners in the region showing you the best of New Zealand & Fiji.
  • Exclusive access to epic feasts & parties all week and all included in the ticket price!

More Than Just Sailing

While the yacht races draw sailors from across the Pacific, the festival’s heart lies in the celebration of cruising in Vava’u and Tongan culture as a whole. The event raises funds for local charities and environmental conservation projects, making it a meaningful contribution to the community. Scheduled to coincide with the end of the humpback whale season, the September timing offers visitors the chance to experience Vava’u’s incredible marine life alongside the festival festivities.
